About:
The PNGDF Recruiting Unit is responsible for the recruitment of personnel to meet the organization’s man-power requirements. PNGDF recruit prospective personnel under the categories of Officer Cadets, Direct Entry Specialists and General Enlistees, specifically with priority on young people who wants to make a career in the PNG Defence Force. Interested candidates must be prepared to undergo a comprehensive Defence Aptitude Tests, Language Tests (ADFLETS), Medical Tests, and Interviews.

When, Where and Whom to Recruit:
The Chief of Personnel is mandated to authorize all recruitment programs as to when to recruit, where to recruit and whom to recruit. An advertisement to call for Applications is then made. Followed by a recruitment schedule being published on a daily newspaper detailing the centers of recruitment to take place.
As much as possible, all Papua New Guineans are given an equal opportunity so long as they meet all the necessary requirements.

How to join the PNG Defence Force:
• An Express of Interest is lodge along with copies of Educational documents, Work References, Birth Certificate, Police Clearance;
• Applications are screened, shortlisted and published on media.

Entry Requirements:

Officer Cadet:

• Height: 170 cm and above for both Male/Female
• Age: Must be 20 – 24 years of age.
• Education: Must have graduated from a recognised University or be in 3rd Year University studies. Grade 12 with A and B grades ONLY are encouraged to apply.
• Character: Must not have criminal convictions.
• Aptitude: Must pass PNGDF Aptitude ratings for Officer Cadets.
• Medical: Must be passed fit through PNGDF Enlistment medical process.
• Must pass ADFELPS Language standards.
• Must be able to pass the Officer Selection Board Panel.

Direct Entry Officers

University graduates with more than 2 years of field experiences or more from the following fields of specialty: Lawyers, Medical Doctors, Educationist, IT specialists, Food Technologists, Civil Engineers, Surveyors, Architect, Building and Construction Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
• Height: 170 cm and above for both Male/Female
• Age: Must be less than 33 years of age.
• Education: Must have graduated from a recognised University with ample job experiences.
• Character: Must not have criminal convictions.
• Aptitude: Must pass PNGDF Aptitude ratings for Direct Entry Officers.
• Medical: Must be passed fit through PNGDF Enlistment medical process.
• Must pass ADFELPS Language standards.
• Must be able to pass the Officer Selection Board Panel.

General Enlistee

• Height: 165 cm and above for both Male/Female
• Age: Must be 20 – 24 years of age.
• Education: Must have completed Secondary education at Grade 12 level PNG standard with B and C grades.
• Character: Must not have criminal convictions.
• Aptitude: Must pass PNGDF Aptitude ratings for General Enlistees.
• Medical: Must be passed fit through PNGDF Enlistment medical process.
• Must pass ADFELPS Language standards.

Other Important Notes:

1. All applicants interested of becoming Pilots and Navy Officers will be initially screened as Officer Cadets to ascertain officer suitability. Separate Aptitude tests will also be administered.
2. Applicants interested in other trade careers in PNGDF; plumbers, welders, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, logistics, etc., must possess prior technical skills qualifications and importantly must meet General Enlist requirement.
